Building Green

Resourcefulness Today – Rewards Tomorrow

“Green” has come to mean a lot of things to a lot of people, but at Quality Homes it encompasses value, sustainability, and comfort all without sacrificing the reputation for craftsmanship that we have built. Quality Homes is an active member of the Florida Green Building Coalition, an organization that has set the standard for Green building in Florida and whose mission is “to lead and promote sustainability with environmental, economic, and social benefits through regional education and certification programs.”

Energy Efficiency is the center piece of a Quality Home. With Florida’s subtropical climate and energy costs rising every year, we understand the need to build to tomorrow’s standards. From proper insulation to efficient air conditioning systems, our homes are intended to help save valuable resources, including your hard earned money.

Water is one of Florida’s most valuable and precious resources and our homes are designed to conserve our community’s clean water. This is accomplished with properly installed and well-designed plumbing systems as well as native landscaping that does not require large volumes of water.

Sturdy Craftsmanship is the corner stone of sustainability, because a house that stands the test of a major storm goes a long way in preventing landfills from piling up and new materials being created. When Hurricane Charley devastated Charlotte County, it created nearly 2,000,000 cubic yards (about 350 football fields) of debris with a cost of more than $60,000,000 to remove. Much of this debris was created from damaged homes almost none of which was from a Quality Home. Not only did this construction debris fill our landfills, but it had to be replaced by manufactures and paid for by homeowners. Imagine the trees cut down, the rock that had to be mined, and the transportation costs to bring this all to market. Most of which could be avoided had those homes been built to our standards. A home that is not destroyed is the most sustainable of all.
